If you or someone you care about is struggling with mental health challenges, I highly recommend listening to this podcast. https://youtu.be/-xg5-HF4ehU?si=qVK9Z8hqimolCzWe
Contrary to popular belief, most mental health issues are rooted in metabolic dysfunction, not the illusive “chemical imbalance.” This is evident as Americans are taking more medication than ever before, yet we remain in the midst of a physical and mental health crisis. If medication alone were the answer, we would be happiest and healthiest country in the world – We are the opposite. The American diet of excessive artificial sugar and processed junk food is literally killing us.
Metabolic psychiatry, or changing your diet to fuel your brain properly has changed my life in unbelievable ways. I still believe in medication, but not overmedicating. In my 20s I was on 8 different meds and very sick due to my horrible high sugar diet, substance abuse, shitty sleep schedule, and unprocessed trauma. Now I am only on 1 medication and through the paleo diet, great sleep hygiene, regular exercise, proper hydration, sobriety, EMDR therapy, and meditation I am the most stable, healthiest and happiest I have ever been.
Food can be medicine or poison. If you are struggling, sugar and carbohydrates could be fucking you up. It was sure fucking me up. Especially eating sugar at night – The next day I would always wake up with either a depressed low mood or being anxious as shit. Not anymore.
I have personally removed almost all artificial sugars from my diet, including most dairy and gluten. Now I just use maple syrup and manuka honey as sweeteners. The easiest way to change your diet is to add more high quality protein, healthy fats, and lots of water and electrolytes. I dare you to cut artificial sugars for a week and see how your life and mood improves.
So the question is, are you willing to change your diet to improve or even save your life?
